In May 2025, the Indian passenger vehicle market recorded retail sales of 3,02,214 units (excluding Telangana). During the same period, total vehicle dispatches by companies stood at 3,49,713 units. Once again, SUV demand remained high, with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) recording strong dispatch volumes. Here’s a look at the top five SUVs dispatched to dealerships across the country in May 2025.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza
Maruti Suzuki dispatched 15,566 units of the Brezza across India in May 2025. In the same month last year, the Indo-Japanese automaker had dispatched 14,186 units, resulting in a 10% year-on-year growth. The Brezza is priced between ₹8.69 lakh and ₹14.14 lakh. The sub-compact SUV is available with petrol and CNG powertrains. The petrol version offers both manual and automatic transmission options, while the CNG version comes with a manual gearbox only.
Hyundai Creta
The Creta has been Hyundai’s best-selling car for almost a decade. In May 2025, the mid-size SUV recorded dispatches of 14,860 units, similar to its performance in May last year. The Creta is available in both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric versions. Key features in the Creta lineup include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, Level 2 ADAS, and six airbags. Prices start at ₹11.11 lakh for ICE variants and ₹17.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the fully electric version.
Mahindra Scorpio
Mahindra secured the third position with the Scorpio, recording 14,401 units dispatched in May 2025, compared to 13,717 units in May last year—a 5% year-on-year increase. This figure includes both the older Scorpio Classic and the newer Scorpio-N models. The ladder-on-frame SUV is available with two engine options: a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel unit and a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit, both with manual and automatic transmission options. The Scorpio Classic is available only with the diesel engine.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx
Maruti Suzuki rolled out 13,584 units of the Fronx in May 2025, marking a 7% increase compared to May 2024. Since its debut in 2023, this Baleno-based crossover has been a massive success for the carmaker. It is also the only car in Maruti’s lineup that comes with a turbocharged petrol engine. The Fronx is priced between ₹7.54 lakh and ₹13.04 lakh (ex-showroom).
Tata Punch
Just a few months ago, the Tata Punch was the best-selling passenger car in India. Now, for May 2025, it ranks fifth among SUVs and ninth overall. Tata Motors sold 13,133 units of the Punch during this period—a 31% year-on-year decline from May last year. These figures include both ICE and EV versions of the Punch.
